The 3 things you SHOULD know about fuel contamination!

Water Contamination or AdBlue Contamination

Fuel contaminated with water, regardless of whether it's unleaded petrol or diesel, is generally a serious situation to address in a vehicle - specifically in advanced common-rail engines.

Water or AdBlue inside your fuel may result in idling issues, uneven running, excessive smoke and, if it is not addressed correctly, possibly broken injectors. Water in petrol is easier to remove as compared to water in diesel - this is largely because diesel is an oil. However we can solve both situations very quickly.

Take note however that any time the vehicle was run on the water contaminated fuel it will most likely require a new fuel filter to be installed since the previous one will undoubtedly be totally water-logged and useless.

Waste Fuel Removal

Have an old fuel reservoir placed in the rear of your premises containing aged, useless or degraded fuel? We can assist you to get rid of it. We've been called out to a number of domestic and industrial properties in Dorset for the purpose of taking away and disposing of fuel storages. We are licenced by the Environment Agency to enable us to remove and recycle waste fuel legally and safely.

No matter if the fuel storage is an underground tank, a portable bowser, or possibly even some containers in a storage shed, if we are able to get to it, we could certainly empty it.

I appreciated a fantastic afternoon hiking on the weekend and felt cheerful with myself the following day as I headed out to aid a new family on vacation in Wick. They stopped after putting the wrong fuel into their modern Volvo240, and the car was around half an hour's travel away. I turned up at their car and smiled to myself as I listened to the girl telling her partner off for turning out to be so foolish. "Exactly how could you conceivably be able to fill the car up by using the wrong fuel?" she said to him. I tried to tell her that this problem occurs quite frequently in Dorset and that it's absolutely nothing to be concerned about, but he in spite of everything got his ear bent. I felt genuine sympathy for the guy. Anyhow, I removed all of the polluted fuel, gave the engine a flush and gave them some proper fuel. Watching them drive away I waved farewell and considered what her indoors would ask me if perhaps I made the very same blunder... I would personally never ever hear the end of it!

Wrong Fuel in Car Dorset - Petrol in Diesel Car Wick

I am certainly not too excited about running on weekends, and 2 weeks ago was no different. I'd only just come away from the wife and kids after a wonderful lunch prepared by the wife, and I was off to help a fellow because he put the wrong petrol in his father's Audi RS 4. He was situated in Wick hence it wouldn't be a long time before I reached him. As I arrived behind the vehicle and got out he said to me "Thank the Almighty! I had my concentration on other things and failed to grasp that I have put the wrong fuel in my petrol car. Have I created any harm through starting it?" I explained that generally there should not be any kind of problems and also I would personally remove the wrong fuel at once. As expected I got the contaminated fuel drained from the vehicle and put in the suitable fuel, and so one more delighted client had the ability to continue their ride with no fuss. He could not stop thanking me, and that makes working on weekends in Dorset just that small bit better for me personally!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VA receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
